I am thinking of dropping the language translation from this blog.

If you can read other languages besides English please take a look at some of the translated versions of this blog using the flag icons at the bottom of the home page. What do you think of the non-English versions of this blog? Are the translations really useful? Do they seem to get the point across?

For nearly years I have used Translation Gold on this and several other sites.

This translation script seem to work well from a software point of view. It translates the pages and saves them in a cache that can be found by search engines and indexed. I actually get a very high percentage of non-English visitors to this blog and the other sites and blogs I run the translation script on.

Why am I considering removing Translation Gold from this site?

I have a high number of bounced visitors.

The bounce percentage is definately higher on the translations. I would like to lower that percentage. While some translated pages rank fairly high, the traffic is not staying. This leads me to think the translations may not be that good anyway.

Poor ad performance.

Many advertisers only want English traffic. AdSense does not seem to perform very well on these pages either. It may be because of the translation or simply lack of demand for ads in those languages. To put it shortly, there’s no money in it.

Google has recently started to complain about the redirects in translated pages.

Google likes the pages themselves. Google does not like it when these pages have links that lead to pages that are blocked by robots.txt. This gives me errors in Google Webmaster Tools and simply makes me nervous. This may be due to the way the pages are cached and the robots.txt is made, but I do not have the skill needed to figure out how to make Google happy with this. Perhaps a better writted robots.txt would do it.

Translation Gold is no longer available.

I am not sure if it is still supported. It has worked very well and is a testament to good scripts. It may be time to stop using it though.

Please share your opinion of translation software with a comment below.

Please make the comment in English from the English version of the page.

**Update**

As pointed out by Apollia in the comment below, the software is not working anymore. This answers my question and I have removed the software since it is now useless.

I also discovered that there was an extreme error in the comment section of the blog with a plugin blocking comments it should not have. I have disabled this plugin till I can make sure comments are working properly. Thanks for all those that have tried to comment and were not able to.

I have found that the Translation Gold software has been getting results from the various langauge Goolge engines. You can read my review of Transation Gold here. I would suggest you give Translation Gold a try on your own website or blog and see if it works. You can always ask for your money back from the author.

SiteProNews is a free newsletter and webmaster resource site Machine Translation SEO for Foreign Language Search Engine Success By Mike Banks Valentine (c) July 12, 2006 Are English speaking websites based in the US simply insular and uncaring about foreign web traffic or are we actually Xenophobic? Xenophobia – a phobic attitude toward strangers – comes from the Greek words xenos, meaning "foreigner", "stranger". Trolling through the "referrers" section in my web site traffic logs routinely shows hundreds of Google foreign language searches. Those foreign language search referrals usually total just slightly more than the combined total of Yahoo and MSN English language search referrals. So doesn’t it make sense to pay more attention to foreign language search in SEO than to fiddle with Yahoo and MSN optimization? My traffic logs routinely show hundreds of translation tool referrals.

Translation Gold will instantly multiply your current content by adding a translation into seven additional languages.

Instantly, you have additional unique content. You have a reach into markets for your site that you did not have before. You have more pages and keywords to bring traffic to your site.

*link removed since software is no longer sold*

Are you looking for unique content to add to your site?

Think of how many people are searching for topic your site covers, but in another language. What if you could instantly tap those markets? Markets that are not being targeted by other webmasters. What if it took almost no additional time on your part? You already have the content. Translation Gold software can open the market for you.

I have been using this software on my sites for the last week and it is working as promised.

So far, the index pages have been indexed in the other languages in Google and MSN and I have seen some non-English search results in my stats, so the search engines are reading the pages.

Translation Gold was easy to install.

Just add some code to the home page of each site and a folder and some scripts to the root folder of the site on your host. It took me maybe five minutes to install on a site and I am not a programmer. Instantly my sites are now eight times larger.

Before I bought Translation Gold I had my wife check how well it translated in Chinese.

My wife checked the Chinese translation. She said while it was not perfect, it was not too bad. My guess was that if it did ok with Chinese, the other languages should be a bit easier. I have also had someone check the French translation and it seemed ok also, with a few minor mistakes. Translation Gold seems to use the Google translator for the translation. You can give it a try by clicking the flag icons at the bottom of this page. In some cases Google also will provide an Adsense ad in the appropriate language. I have found the Adsense language to only work sometimes.

There are some people who could probably do something like this by themselves.

I guess if you really wanted to, you could copy and paste a translation form Google yourself. That would probably take you more time than it is worth. Translation Gold can also be set to redo the translation after a certain number of days if you change the content on your pages. The time you save with Translation Gold would be enormous.

I do not think your traffic will double eight times with Translation Gold.

Most of the Internet does speak and use the Internet in English. Right now, I would guess I’m seeing maybe a 15% increase in traffic from the various language Google sites. I think it is worth it.

I suggest you give Translation Gold a test.

If you do not find it working out, they will give you your money back. You can use the following link to get to the Translation Gold site.

*link removed since software is no longer sold*
