Off To Toronto

My wife and I are leaving in the next few minutes for Toronto, Ontario.

We will be visiting family and doing the tourist thing.

We will be spending some time in Chinatown as normal. I'll be sure to make a stop at the Pacific Mall (just because it is cool). This time, we are also planning to visit a few other places around Toronto.

This year we should not be getting lost like the last time we went to Toronto.

We bought a

Escape From The Island

My continued story of an incredible week of events.

The story thus far.

Our hero (that would be me) and his wife are attempting to return home after a trip to Chicago's Chinatown. Upon exiting the freeway, they have suddenly found themselves marooned on a stretch of road with all exits off flooded by water. Essentially, we stuck on an island with no way off. I ended the last post, telling you I was ready to give up and take one of the few remaining parking places at the Burger King at Rawson and 13th. However, I have growing concerns about our house. Yes, this reads like a bad movie. If you have not read the first part of this story, you may want to click here and read it first. I have also added a couple photos of two roads, now dry, that were flooded. This might give you a better idea why the whole thing was so bizarre.

As far as I could tell, the only way in or out of the area seemed to be those coming off the freeway eastbound on Rawson.

While these cars still had to drive through several inches of water at least they were getting through. There were several cars stuck in the flood

I Was Marooned!

It was not on a deserted island but in a city just yards from the freeway!

An hour and a half trip home from Chinatown in Chicago turned into much more than a 3 hour tour. I would not have believed what would  happen if you had warned me. While this story is not about Internet marketing, it has had a major impact on my online life. Further events have changed my total point of view.

So, sit right back and you'll hear a tale.

A tale of a fateful week. It started with a trip to the surreal and things have not been the same since.

It started with a trip to

Tornado Warning!

There is a tornado warning in my area.

The storm will be hitting here in about 5 minutes. I'll let you know what happens-hopefully.

Update!

The warning is now cancelled. The heaviest part of the storm that caused it passed just south of where I live. It was a bit exciting as the weather man drew a line along the path for the storm and it was heading right this way.

At my wife's work they had everyone move into the central hall of the Court House.

One thing about the weather here in Wisconsin, if you don't like it, just wait a few minutes-it'll change.

The Hidden Danger In Wi-Fi And Wireless And Devices

Scientific American had an article recently about a digital camera that helped catch its own thief.

This Is Not A Dangerous Website

Honest, this is not a bad .info scam site!

AP has a story on the most dangerous domian name suffixes to visit.

.info's along with .hk and .cn are amoung the domain suffixes that are most likely to be "dangerous" according to McAfee. I personally was surprised by the .hk's (Hong Kong) being known for being bad. I could have guessed about the .cn or China suffix.

One of the primary problems is

Open Source Can Have Advantages Over Commercial Software

A series of unfortunate events Memorial Day weekend demonstrated some advantages Linux and open source software have over commecial software choices.

Does open source like linux have real advantages

I learned one of the advantages of Linux over other operating systems. Don't let the somewhat geeky story below turn you off, there is a lesson to be learned.

What Steve Pavlina Missed - How to Be a Real Man

Three important points in being a real man that Steve Pavlina missed.

Don't just read the headings, the points are in the details. I think that these points also work for being a real woman, but I can't say I would have experience with that. Maybe I should ask my wife?

I have seen a lot of bloggers mention Steve Pavilina's article on

Is Linux A Good Option For Internet Marketing?

Is Linux ready for real users?

I have been playing around with the latest version of Ubuntu Linux for the past few days.

Ububutu logo resized and edited in Gimp

While there are many different distributions of Linux, Ubuntu seems to be winning in popularity at the moment. I have even seen a license plate in the area with Ubuntu on it. Can someone in Internet Marketing rely on Linux for all their needs? Is Linux ready for
