Google can't possibly be interested in the reader experience. Too many of their actions make that very clear. Their bottom line is profit. Let their stock tumble!

Of course the whole gun going off a bit later would be quite metaphysical if a little pleasing.

I was one of the sites that was taken down 2 points. I'm definitely not a big website.

I have a advertiser that I picked up on my own. I changed nothing. I think it has gone back up in PR. They are not going to tell me how to run my own website. I paid for it. I'll run it exactly how I like. Nope, I'm not their whore.

mcangeli – I am not sure it will hurt them. In a couple years they will be running the TV ads you see also. I wonder if they will decide what we watch?

The subject of what Google are doing now and whether it falls into anti-competitive behaviour is becoming more and more of an issue.

The question is, though, who has the brass balls to take them on?

You're absolutely right with what you're saying here. I don't care what they tell me, there's no way this campaign is being waged in order to improve the SERPs. It's all about protecting their revenue streams and, in fairness, they're quite entitled to do so. It's their product, it's their index and they can do whatever the Hell they want. Ultimately they're an advertising company. They're the #1 search engine. However what they need to remember is that the very people they're attacking here are the people who put them in there in the first place.

I think google is trying to dictate what we do with our blog/web sites, but I don't know if its going to help them or hurt them in the long run.

Many of the bigger sites shrugged and said wtf google? And then went on with business as usual. That tends to be my response as well…
