DigitalKeyTo.info is one year old today!
I was tagged by Dwayne at Dwayne’s Word on a meme.
The Question is: Explain why you blog. With this blog having its first birthday, I cannot think of a better time to think about it. Dwayne tagged me several days ago, I was not waiting till to day to do this, I just put it off this long.
I said this in my first post:
For the first time though, I thought about the Internet as something you could make a little money on. I had previously not ever really considered the possibility to generate income on the Internet (unless I wanted to spend my life in line at UPS sending packages from an online store or EBay). Maybe I should have invested in Google at the time?
I did not start this blog with the idea of turning it into a major source of income.
I did hope to make a little bit of money though. I managed to put an affiliate link in that first post. Anyways, this blog has not made much over the last year anyway. Mostly because I have neglected it too much.
The reason I started this blog was initially to chronicle the attempts I made in finding out how to make money online.
This blog was not really part of that plan. I was just planning to share what I discovered and learned. I hoped that I could help someone else avoid the same mistakes.
Time can be a real enemy.
I got busy and did not post often here. Looking at the postings it seems like I managed to post about six times a month. No enough to develop a blog. There is a three month hole in there from October 2007 till January 2007 that I did not post even once. I was working very hard on another site during that time.
During the past year, I have studied how to make money online.
I have experimented in building websites for money. I have read how to make money online. I have learned way too many ways to make money on the Internet. I have not made much. I know what I need to do to change that.
Blogging for me is very hard.
I type slow. For some reason, I never had typing in high school. I usually have to type everything several times before it is close to right. Yet, typing is one skill you need if you want to blog or do most anything on the Internet. So, I live with it. It just takes time. Lots of it, in my case.
Did I truly have a desire to "blog?"
No. I do have a desire to share with others. To network with others as Pamil wrote in her response to the Blog Apocalypse.
My desire to blog has changed over the last few months.
My whole look at blogging in general has changed. A couple things happened at nearly the same time.
First, I found MyBlogLog.
I noticed the avatars for months but did not pay much attention to them. Till one day I started to click on a few and found some fantastic blogs (about making money online).
I checked out MyBlogLog and joined. In the past few weeks, I have met some wonderful writers (bloggers) through it. I have gotten some real encouraging messages from others through it. Putting an avatar behind the name and know a bit more about who is visiting had really made the networking part of blogging a lot of fun.
The second thing that changed my attitude towards blogging (as potential source of income) is Kumiko’s blog.
I think I found it from John Chow’s blog (her avatar just makes me smile). While she does not claim it is successful yet, I saw a blog making an income that has only been going for a few months. What that means to me is that, given the work, a blog can be reasonably profitable after a few months.
So, to sum up my desire to blog, there are three reasons:
- Share what I have found
- Network with others (more sharing, but reciprocal)
- Make money blogging (while still enjoying the first two reasons)
I would really like to thank those who I have met even briefly, here and through MyBlogLog recently. This is going to be fun!
Now, for those unfortunate ones about to be tagged.
Sorry, I know it seems a bit like a homework assignment but it’s become a blogging tradition. Actually, if this is as fun as the Blog Apocalypse was, everyone gains from the meme. So I will tag BethSantana (hope it translates ok), Ginene, Jack, JaneMay, and BestofBrett. You can take part if you want, but do not feel obligated.
