Now I think I know what’s wrong.
Sean at Warrior Blog had a post about showing your desktop.
You may want to take a look at his post before reading the rest of this one. Just make sure you come back.
Out of curiosity and fun: I want to know what your desktop look like and I will link to you in an upcoming post if you decide to do a post on it as well .
At first I was not going to make a screenshot.
I have a lot of stuff that just does not make sense to anyone else. Honestly, looking at it, my desktop does not make sense to me.
As you can see, there are way too may icons.
It is confusing. Unproductive. Unorganized. Perhaps even, a little insane.
I am thinking this is a true reflection of my life at the moment.
I am a bit confused. I am not as productive as I normally am. I have lost my organizational skill, something I used to excel at. I am not crazy though. At least I didn’t think so last time I asked myself.
My desktop usually does not look like this at all.
I have had people point out the total lack of icons on my desktop. Normally, there are as few as possible. If I wanted more, I put them in a folder where I could find them. What you see above though, is something I used to make fun of.
There are over 100 icons up there.
It’s scary. This is not me. At least, not what I believe is me. Unfortunately, perhaps I have gone astray lately. I remember being very neat at one time in my life.
It’s not just my computer desktop.
The desk this computer sits on is also a mess. Along with much of my studio at work. Nothing is the neat orderly way it normally is. My wife has even been complaining about the back seat of my car lately. Normally, I can go for months without cleaning the inside of my car because I never leave anything there.
It started by not taking care of things right away.
Not taking the time to organize things from the start. The icon mess started when I started downloading things for Internet marketing. The idea was download now, read later. Some of which I read.
I have cleaned the desktop from time to time.
Not the right way. Often, I just made a new folder on the drive and dumped everything there. Fast, but not permanent. It also created more confusion as I try to find things later.
My goal for the month of October is to fix this.
Not just my desktop, but everything that has gotten disorganized. I’m not going to try and say I’ll do it all in one day. I have some priority goals I need to take care of first but I will be able to do much if I just do a little each day and work it into my schedule.
I’m done with this confusion – how about you?
I will have a post in November with a better looking desktop! Maybe I’ll work some affirmations into the background like Sean did. Anyone want to join me?
