All For Christy

All For Christy

I came across this story at Wickedfire. It was posted by a regular poster. Visit the site, read the whole story and see what you can do. I have cut and pasted a small part of the story here.

Christy is dying.

She’s a beautiful girl who doesn’t know how to cry. She’s always happy, even when she’s very sick, which is often. Christy just turned 17, but you would never know it by looking at her. She is only 4 feet 6 inches tall, and weighs 80 pounds. She has the mental acumen of a one year old.

Today Christy is 17 and sick again.

It was discovered recently that an infection she had been fighting was back and she is once again septic.

Christy is such a wonderful little girl.

She is always happy, even when she is extremely ill. In her 17 years of life, she has never cried. She doesn’t experience pain or hunger the way you and I do. She can make 25 different sounds, but no words. I can’t imagine how emotionally draining this is on Julie. She needs our help.

Due to Christy’s condition she is currently fed Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) through a central line. The problem with TPN is potential for bacterial infections, and liver failure. It’s ironic, but in many ways the nutrients keeping Christy alive may end up being responsible for her death. It is unknown how long she has, but I believe her mother should be able to spend as much time with her as she wants and needs to.

It;s hard when our kids are sick. I understand that her mother wants to spend as much time as possible with her and under the circumstances I would want to do the same thing for my kids. GOOD LUCK CHRISTY!!!!!
